Use Wiimote as Windows mouse, destroy all personal productivity
That "Wiimote acceleration values" vid was great and all, but those graphs get old after like 10 seconds. That's why we're glad to see somebody base an actual Windows cursor control on the snazzy technology from the Wii Linux folks behind that first tech demo. Unfortunately, the tilt sensing sensors of the controller just don't make for a great mouse, which leaves our intrepid hacker here floating across the screen in a rather frustrating manner. Nobody has managed to tap into the IR triangulating capabilities of the Wiimote over Bluetooth yet, which has the potential to improve such interfacing considerably, so we figure we'll hold out until such a time as that, or until the carpal tunnel becomes too great to bear -- whichever comes first.

Amazing, but what we really need is the IR, that would make my day. Also, is there anything on using the nunchuck attachment?

for a split second i thought the yoda background on the computer was the guy's reflection.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks fake?
It seems that he has a normal mouse in his left hand or being operated by another person.
/pissing on parade

Did you notice the way the curser moved? Have you tried to get a mouse to move like that? It's not easy...
Will @ Jan 16th 2007 11:25PM
I know its not fake because ive done it
Dave @ Dec 5th 2006 11:39AM
Why demo mouse movement without the IR working.. I think it would have been better to demo a driving game or something, as that is what the Wiimote acceleration values are used for on the Wii.
Still it is nice to see progress. If someone can wrap it in a complete driver down the road it wouldn't be a half bad PC controller. I find it very comfortable when playing Zelda for hours.

It's always nice to see tech demo with blinking on screen camcorder info. Make it look like the guys that are doing it really knows their stuff
tiuk @ Dec 5th 2006 12:28PM
I don't know jack about camcorders, but am very competent when it comes to computers/programming. Not everyone knows everything about everything.

What a great idea! Now people will be able to throw their wiimotes at their laptops and break them too!
CarlKenner @ Dec 5th 2006 6:50PM
Actually this guy has got IR working. I assume he'll make another video of it soon.
It isn't a fake. You can download the program he talks about and try it yourself. If the new version 0.23 doesn't work (some people are reporting problems with it, although this Yoda guy got it working), try version 0.22 which was used for this video. Both versions have significant numbers of bugs though.

looks like IR triangulation to me
