Sony busting out three new PSP colors this month
We've been seeing these colorful PSPs around, but it looks like Sony is getting for reals and finally releasing them to the public. We've got pink, silver and blue, any one of which should significantly boost your fashionista cred, though we can't say they'll do a whole lot for your Locoroco score. If you want to take things to the next level, you can also nab an incredibly pink Samantha Thavasa purse for carrying your pink PSP, which will also do absolutely nothing for you Locoroco game, but plenty to inspire envy among teenage Japanese girls the world over. All of this will be hitting retail on November 22nd, but there's no word on price or whether this is some sort of limited run. As for cash, we suppose you could always crack open the PS3 fund, 'cause if you haven't nabbed one of 'em yet, the odds are slim you'll have need for that Yen before next year. We're also a tad curious about international availability, since those Lik-Sang and Play-Asia wells sure have dried up. Peep the purse after the break.

Who cares...when is the GPS coming
Trent @ Nov 2nd 2006 11:11AM
I feel dirty just for owning an original black PSP. I think I'll try to ebay my old PSP today. Since all I ever use it for is placeshifting TV shows.
Sony is ANTI-consumer.
Rohit Kapur @ Nov 2nd 2006 11:12AM
Still think black's the best...
But I'd prefer this pink over the other Pink (or P!nk, is it nowadays?). :-)
Christian Martin @ Nov 2nd 2006 11:14AM
Okay, I get the releasing of pink portable game units.... but hows about a more quality-looking shade of it? This looks only sightly better than the pink DS Lite, which in person can easily be mistaken for someone's birth control.
Terrorific @ Nov 2nd 2006 11:14AM
Don't forget about the new color PS2's as well! Go to: http://www.kilian-nakamura.com/blog-english/?p=236

Sony is polishing the turd. How about coming out with some mind blowing games. That'll boost sales.
LittleJoe @ Nov 2nd 2006 11:38AM
alla DS Lite

PSP has been quite a disappointment to me. I was pretty excited about it originally and almost bought one at launch. After some consideration though I just couldn't think of any games I actually wanted to plan on it other than Lumines. A friend of mine did get one at launch and ended up selling it along with all his PSP games for quite a loss just so he could get a DS. I don't imagine new colors will solve the issue of lackluster games.

Where is the Golden PSP used to fight Satan's Armies?
Andrew Bragdon @ Nov 2nd 2006 12:21PM
Who cares. Seriously.
Mrfreezie @ Nov 2nd 2006 12:41PM
Ahh, Sony's attempt to battle the nintendoian giant, the DS.
Tom @ Nov 2nd 2006 12:44PM
New colors. Great. Meanwhile the latest firmware update merely cracks down on homebrew a little bit more and provides absolutely no new features...

Early-December for the camera and GPS for Japan, likely soon after for North America.
Silver R. Wolfe @ Nov 2nd 2006 1:17PM
Because a handheld that's only getting beat out by the DS and PS2 in Japan is definitely a failure. >.>
Seriously, the PSP has better rated games overall than the DS and it's damn sexier to boot!
I, Robot @ Nov 2nd 2006 2:41PM
...Whatever you need to tell yourself to get through the day.

Finally, a silver one to match my MacBook Pro. Too, bad I already have a black one. Black PSP, meet Mr. Krylon. Maybe while I'm at it, I'll hide my iSight light to look like the the C2D MacBook Pro's
boynamedsue @ Nov 2nd 2006 1:32PM
i hocked my psp. I got tired of constantly having to figure out ways to runhomebrew after upgrading my firmware, or find ways out of upgrading my firmware to play games.
My DS may not have the sexy screen, but the games are fun, and nintendo does almost nothing to try to squash homebrew on it. There's always new programs coming out. I just tried out a voice over IP program that ran really well.
I'll miss my psp when the GPS finally shows up. But i'll get over it. I refuse to support a company thats been as tremendously anti consumer as sony has been this last year.
Quentin @ Nov 2nd 2006 1:55PM
I wonder why does Sony think that all Americans like the color black as their choice of gaming consoles? They should take a cue from Apple and Nintendo. I would certainly rock a silver PSP but nooooooooooooo, they rather try to sell us an overpriced "entertainment" pack with some worthless game and umd combo.
theChad @ Nov 2nd 2006 2:01PM
Maybe it's just the pics, but those colors look cheesy. Where's the gloss? Where's the deep, sexy colors?
frank @ Nov 2nd 2006 2:11PM
While it's not likely to affect gameplay, the color around the border of the screen most definitely affects our perception of the colors on the screen (consult any color theory or graphic design text). Black has a tendency to make colors look brighter and generally more "colorful" than those surrounded by a white border.
number40one @ Nov 2nd 2006 2:25PM
The blue one looks alright, and the silver one looks marginally better than that, but the sexiness of this particular device is definitely lacking in any color other than black.
Rick @ Nov 2nd 2006 7:35PM
Awww... Did someone hurt your ego?
I, Robot @ Nov 2nd 2006 2:54PM
Great... Is this going to help Sony bring out better games? No? Or, is this going to help Sony work with their customers, instead of against them? No? Well why don’t they try sticking a toupee on it, maybe THAT will work.
TheWakeUpCall @ Nov 2nd 2006 4:14PM
'Sony busting out three new PSP colors this month'
and they are all disgusting. fantastic.
rory @ Nov 2nd 2006 5:17PM
god i am sick of everyone banging on about how crap the PSP is, if you hate it that much go and play with your DS and stop bothering those who enjoy owning one.
I'll admit, it could still do with a few more excellent games, but let's be honest, Sony haven't done THAT badly considering practically every company that challenged Nintendo in the console market completely failed and went bankrupt.
I think what happened was that Sony overhyped it, and everyone was expecting this absolutely amazing handheld, but what we got was a decent handheld. If Sony kept their trap shut then no one would have got over excited about it and the PSP may have caught on more.
As for the colours? Not bad, but Sony could really pull off something better to improve sales.
Steve @ Nov 2nd 2006 10:32PM
That blue one has my name on it, I'll be getting my 3rd PSP for Xmas it seems.
blee @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:56AM
It's amazing how Sony is now following Nintendo.
Rick_Havoc @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:11AM
Great more worthless garbage from the devil. How about a keyboard? Or how about leaving my grey market buddies alone? D2S!!!
Manny S. @ Nov 3rd 2006 10:25AM
I've got both a PSP and DSLite. Both are enjoyable. But the PSP has far superior graphics and sound capabilities. Compare the latest Need for Speed game, Carbon. On the PSP it looks and plays way better than the DSLite. But, the DSLite has strengths in other game areas. Own them both, why choose. But don't bother with a new PSP with firmware above 2.71. It's useless.
Carlo @ Nov 5th 2006 11:43AM
Cool, brand new rainbows of colors for the PSP. I wonder when they will make a great game which will make me smile a rainbow. Surprising, isn't it?
