Xbox 360 mod sports fully-internal water cooling
There are a few ways to remedy the Xbox 360's heat problem, but none of them are as impressive as the all-internal water-cooling system created by Dano2k0 on the Xbox-scene forums. Somehow, he's managed to squeeze a Zern GPU block, a Koolance GPU-180-H06 block, a Tank-o-Matic mini reservoir, a 12v thermaltake pump and DD fill port into the 360's already crowded interior. The mods don't stop on the inside, as the box itself is customized with blue LEDs, plexiglass windows, some slick blue paint and, best of all, no huge water pipes that look like they came from a pool filter.

That looks so cool! If only MS made this as standard...
Ashet @ Jun 20th 2006 9:55AM
Pimp, nothing more, just downright pimp
Erick @ Jun 20th 2006 10:02AM
I guess it's cool but are there any benifits? Can you overclock a 360? Why would you want to?
Varsara @ Jan 2nd 2008 7:44AM
Of course there are benefits. the volume of the thing is almost completely removed and the temps are no longer to the point that they are going to force you to use your warranty 8 months down the road
Spyvie @ Jun 20th 2006 10:05AM
I wonder if it actually works
What are his before and after temps
Scabies @ Jun 20th 2006 10:21AM
two points for teh sweetness.
Andir2.0 @ Jun 20th 2006 10:35AM
The point of watercooling is to get the heat outside the case. This is kinda pointless since the radiator is still inside the case. It's no different than cutting a hole in the side of the case above the processor which, from the looks, is what he has done.
-- for the mods...why can I post with this new ID and get an email immediately and if I post using Andir, I don't get the emails?
Germ @ Jun 20th 2006 10:42AM
It would be really heavy though, right?
What if it tips over?
Do I have to add chemicals to it in order to keep it crystal clear?
Great looks though.
Germ @ Jun 20th 2006 10:44AM
Sorry. FALLS over?
Brian Baigorri @ Jun 20th 2006 10:53AM
I'm with Andir (or Andir2.0 or whatever his name is now)... If you're transferring all the heat from the GPU and CPU to the radiator, but the radiator is inside the SMALL unit, will there really be much of a difference in cooling? If anything you would be concentrating the heat from two processors into one spot.
That said, this does look pretty sweet regardless. Love the blue paint job and matching LEDs.
Guruboy @ Jun 20th 2006 11:02AM
Looks really cool, wonder how much it'll cost to get your 360 to not overheat while voiding your warrenty?
Pacey @ Jun 20th 2006 11:02AM
If he's smart (and it looks like he is) that fan on the side of the case is pulling the inside air across the radiator and blowing it outside. That being the case, he's getting the air outside the case in a form that: a) is probably quieter than just a fan because the blades dont have to spin as fast to cool the radiator; and b) this looks freaking sweet
Michael Nelson @ Jun 20th 2006 11:27AM
God dammit, did he have to rice up the machine like all the other stupid casemodders at the same time? The water cooling would've been so much better without the awful new case, man.
Lord Dark Moon @ Jun 20th 2006 11:41AM
Nice work!! And that’s from me, a Master Moder who has been “addicted to liquid” since 1909, er 1999 ;^)...

I guess this goes to show that, no matter how good the paint job or lighting, an XBox 360 still looks like crap. The form factor is beyond ugly. That aside, the guy did a great job on the mod. Top marks.
theCardinal @ Jun 20th 2006 12:32PM
I'll never understand these perspex windows into PCs or console internals. Components are not pretty, why expose them?
Thom @ Jun 20th 2006 3:33PM
Cardinal,
It's the same reason people prop up their hoods at car shows. Engines might not be "pretty" to ordinary folk like you and me, but to people that care, seeing the innards is all-important.
tekdemon @ Jun 20th 2006 4:20PM
theCardinal, you probably don't think car engines look very sexy either, but to a fanatic it's pure sex appeal...
Which is why Ferrari's show off their engines in the back with a clear panel over them!!!
Raider @ Jun 20th 2006 5:26PM
I agree with most people here. The 360 is an ugly machine. It's good to see the interior and change the color of the case. The dull cream white looks horrible and it does have an unnecessary form factor. It looks likes a kids machine and even the Wii looks more like high tech than the 360.
The only thing the 360 has going for it design wise. Is the nearly perfect controller. That is the ONLY thing I will give them absolute 100% credit for.
Ironhide Delta @ Jun 20th 2006 11:09PM
^^^ Actually I'd be very much inclined to disagree with you on that. The Xbox 360 certainly does not look like a kid's toy at all.
Also, I would love to know just how much quieter this modification runs compared tot he stock 360.
Sukato @ Jun 21st 2006 2:32PM
Here's the thing. The point of water cooling systems is NOT to get the heat outside the case. It's to get it away from the processor and key components of the machine. The water absorbs the heat, and then moves it away from the processor, where it gets circulated and cooled again. A fan gets the heat out of the case.

i wonder if this colud help my xbox because i had the 3 red lines about a 3 weeks ago, fixed it , and yesterday 3 red lines again, and i am sure this is due to overheating, so anyone else had the same problem and fixed it with this type of cooling???
jair @ Mar 13th 2008 9:37AM
beautiful, but not necessary. we're not going to overclock the xbox360, a simple air flow ajustments solve all problems of aver heating....
