Crazy new Wolf King gaming keyboard hits the FCC
It looks like those that prefer their keyboards as unconventional as possible could soon have a new option to consider from Wolf King, which has just seen its latest less-than-ergonomic wonder pass through the FCC. From the looks of it, this one boasts a good deal of similarities to the Wolf Claw keyboard we saw a while back, minus the full-size QWERTY keyboard. That gets replaced by a jumble of keys that could probably be used to actually type something in a pinch, although we're guessing you'll want to have another keyboard as a backup. According to the manual, you can also expect a pair of extra USB ports, seven customizable hotkeys and, of course, some blue backlighting to really make it stand out on your desk. No word on a price or release but, as you can see above, it sure looks about ready to roll out the door.

and while youre not using it, it can fold and make waffles as well.
Ipaq3115 @ Nov 9th 2007 12:52PM
That would take some getting used to...

This is obviously geared toward a specific demographic who wants to type with just one hand, and to mix it up he can switch to the other hand.
You know, so he doesn't get carpal tunnel.

I think the Ergodex DX1 still holds the rights to best left handed commander out there, heck the DX1 is the ONLY thing holding me back from switching to vista.
As far as the structure on teh key layout, Wolfking has ALWAYS been prone to cater to the CS crowd hence why they put their layout in said config.
overall i think this thing might have some usefulness, i don't think I'll be giving up my DX1 anytime soon.

While I can see the utility of having a fully righthanded keyboard for chatting with a dedicated left hand for commands... if you're in chat mode, the left side will be passing characters to the chat screen, and out of combat, what's the point of the keyboard if you have a dedicated command panel?
It'd be more interesting if they came up with a Right-hand keyboard to pair with something like a Nostromo N-52.. still the best left-handed commander out there. And it would need to be something more ergonomical than a grid...

This got me hoping maybe there's an updated N52.. and there is! Just came out this month - N52te.
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=390404. I been dreaming of a blue-lit commander to match my Saitek Eclipse keyboard.. wooT! although $70 is a bit pricey.. still, my n52 is getting pretty thrashed from use. If the keys press better and the macro interface is easier to use, I'm all over this. WOLF KING = fail.

I feel sorry for the arrow cursor keys on the bottom of the right-hand pad. They look like just afterthoughts.
Might as well re-label the WASD keys as the new directional keys since it doesnt make sense to use this thing to create text documents like my thesis on videogaming as a masturbatory experience and as an explicit replacement for phyco-social interaction with women.

I want to be able to spell by blowing and drooling into a straw, just like Stephen Hawking.

Great job! you just made fun of a disabled person!
friendlyner @ Nov 9th 2007 1:28PM
For those who want to type in lolcat speak without really trying?
Matt @ Nov 9th 2007 1:30PM
It looks like a ZBoard and an Alpha-Grip got together and had an effed-up flipper baby. I sure hope this isn't the final design.
Nils @ Nov 9th 2007 1:48PM
The QWERTY-part isnt too stupid after all... They have simply moved the two blocks for each hand from "side to side" to "below each other".
holycow @ Nov 9th 2007 1:54PM
OH MAN! No more QWERTY!?
DerekPowell @ Nov 9th 2007 2:10PM
not sure what the fcc has to do with this...can't see it being used too effectively for communication
Lupe @ Nov 9th 2007 2:35PM
It looks really cool - am just wondering if it is ergonomically to type with? Would have thought that more effort could be made into hotkeys so they would be easier to remeember - maybe with a small LCD screen?

I think that I'd have more luck typing on this keyboard using my toes. On the bright side, it might then double as a hoverboard. I'll just have to remember that it doesn't work on water.
phyreblade @ Nov 9th 2007 3:38PM
@DerekPowell
The FCC has to ensure that any electronic device, even non-communications ones, do not cause interference.
And this looks waaaay to busy. I'd rather stick with my nostromo gamepad. The N5x line is much more compact and to the point. This would take a while to get used to.
Othello @ Nov 9th 2007 3:45PM
I've always thought normal keyboards didn't have enough 'Q's.
Joe Templeman @ Nov 12th 2007 7:24AM
The orginal Wolf King is a great gaming accessory, its bordering on the laughable when you have your friends over and I cant help but think that this will push it over the edge!
Chris.L @ Nov 12th 2007 2:53PM
I have no idea how anyone could use that...even for gaming...
