Bigger, better photos of the Vii, the cheaper, crappier Wii
by Ryan Block, posted Oct 3rd 2007 at 9:19AM
We're no closer to knowing exactly how fantastic a knockoff the Vii really is, but these pictures lend the project some credibility -- if a ripoff game console can actually have any credibility, anyway.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Grandalf @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:23AM
Normally I'm against those sort of internet lingo, but this time I have to concur :)
Mark @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:23AM
Does it even stand :D
Michael Leung @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:24AM
Is it from Taiwan?
It's got some Traditional Chinese characters.
strider_mt2k @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:27AM
I think some Chinese Characters are gonna get in trouble over this!
Tom T. @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:02AM
Most likely from China. Taiwanese don't buy fake electronics. In fact, importing Japanese Wii (at ridiculous prices) was all the craze this year in Taiwan.
yikeouch @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:24PM
They're Chinese products. That three Chinese characters are the same in simplified Chinese and in Traditional Chinese.
Anthony @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:25AM
The black bar thing on the front is like staring into the souls of any person that would buy one.
Andir3.0 @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:29AM
Thanks... now I want one.
B*lldog @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:31AM
They must be having a laugh, this can't seriously be real???
James @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:34AM
Oooh! I vant one!
Nando @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:37AM
Vell, you're just going to have to vait for it.
Jamie @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:37AM
When you say crappier you do mean because the wii itself is pretty crappy too, right?
Derry Quinn @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:07AM
No! Can't you see how you were instantly ranked "Lowest". If you presented your argument instead of just bitching about it with nothing to back yourself up you look stupid!
Ok I'll start. I like the Wii because of it's wiimote with acellerometers for playing games like red steel cool-ly. I also like the way I can buy games for my SNES to play which i haven't played since I was a kid. I like the way It's affordable and cheaper than the others in this gen. I like the way nintendo forgot about graphics and power and focused on new ways to play. I like the clean colour of white. I like the way my mother can play too.
But most of all... Yeah... Most of all... I LIKE THE WAY YOU MOOOOVE!!! (did i just spoil my post there?)
John B @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:35AM
Derry, don't feed the trolls.
Derry Quinn @ Oct 4th 2007 6:25AM
*Sniff Sniff*
I'm lowest??? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Liqwid @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:40AM
Hey, at least they did one good thing: they put the Sync button on the top of the Viimote and not in the battery access.
Alexander @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:52AM
All you have to do is press the 1 and 2 buttons. Same effect as the sync button. At least for games. Making a remote the 'first' controller (and making the power button work) requires pressing the button on the console itself, and then the button in the back.
But, you shouldn't be doing that a lot.
Traveler @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:44AM
Does it adapt to play with Wee games?
Harvey @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:48AM
How sad is it that the Wii is being knocked-off, but nobody is even wasting their time trying to knock-off the poor selling PS3? Or did I miss it, and there's a PSiii knock-off already?
Willen @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:51AM
I assume that the Vii will start shipping with sturdier wrist straps and a cond.. er, jacket for the controllers.
DoomSickle @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:02AM
Anyone knows what this thing plays? Does it play Wii games? Is it an actual Wii, modded but packaged in a Vii plastic casing? I personally think it looks like a piece of crap, its an insult to all Wii owners but if its modded and plays any regioned game or movie and garauntee never to brick, it might be a good buy, maybe.......
Derry Quinn @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:09AM
Yeah, we want to know what this thing actually does! Can anyonw help me with this?
suv4x4 @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:24AM
"China is renowned for creating cheap imitations of popular products, and it seems the gaming industry isn't safe from it. An interesting console has appeared in a Chinese magazine which has remarkable resemblance to the Nintendo Wii... Meet the Vii! This is probably the most blatant rip off of the Wii yet, although the graphics are more of the SNES era. Anyone want to translate the titles"
It's got the looks (sorta) but not the guts. Apparently the black bar above is a NES/SNES cartridge slot.
The viimote is likely just regular (wireless?) SNES controller designed to look like Wiimore (most likely no motion detection).
Quite pathetic, but at the same time, gotta give it to them for having the skill and will to churn those fakes at incredible rates all the time.
Michael Leung @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:08AM
I am a Hong Konger, 威力棒 nearly means: 威力Power 棒Stick
Jared @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:16AM
I like how this article is filed under Gaming. Shouldn't it be filed under Humor?
tk. @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:22AM
does this thing take the original NES cartridges?
slyecho @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:41PM
Most likely Famicom ones.
Patrick @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:23AM
Vii? Is it a Wii for slavic people?
LokiClock @ Oct 4th 2007 2:14AM
And Romans.
insane.uk @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:26AM
All your vii's are belong to us.
Brent @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:31AM
A crappier Wii? I thought those were called Gamecubes...
Alex Rrrrrrr @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:42AM
Cheaper, but not neccasarily crappier...Hell, it might even play music CD's.
Dream on...
HyperHacker @ Oct 3rd 2007 5:20PM
I don't see a disc drive.
chris.ismael @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:49AM
It looks like a NES standing on its side.
Moofree @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:45AM
More like two NESs duct taped together.
John Doe @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:49AM
So instead of the power of 2 Gamecubes duct taped together this will have the power of one? :-P
snowglyder @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:02AM
Knockoff?? I don't see it. . .
David @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:03AM
can it do 1080p?
suv4x4 @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:32AM
If it's really a SNES clone made to look like Wii, it can do 239p and 478i, also fake 3D perspective effects at the amazing 128x128px resolution!
Tim @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:03AM
This is being put out by Ninetudo, right?
Magallanes @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:09AM
Soon in Ebay under the name of "cheap wii".
:-(
Derry Quinn @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:12AM
HAHAHA You sick bastard!
Neon Jebus @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:48AM
Well it does look like they will get multiple colors of their system out before Nintendo does...
Alexander @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:53AM
*readies my Guy Fawkes Mask*
g3n3tiX @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:17PM
At least it comes in 3 colors...
Jason @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:22PM
Just to let everyone know it is a china product and it released i believe Oct 2nd in china. IT does not play any wii type games, it takes cartages which are games made by the company. The remote does have motion sensor though. So... LOL IT IS real
Ian @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:51PM
It looks like Pii. Pronounce that as the excrement, of course.
Michael Jennings-Offen @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:03PM
I'm a Famiclone collector and I'd bet the farm that this is the next version of the Power Games series of fake nes's. The infamous Power Games Penguin features evil red glowing eyes, a bow tie, one of those horrid multi-carts with a million repeats and hacks, and most impressive-- a wireless controller that uses IR to communicate with the console-- and it really works. Stranger still, a second player can plug a wired controller or zapper in to the first controller and be 'wireless' by being wired to the player 1 controller (and thus ir transmitter). That translucent black plastic on the front of the "Vii" looks a lot like an IR receiver if you ask me... Of all the Familclones I have, the Penguin is my favorite for design and functionality, I for one welcome the Vii and am definitely going to have to get my hands on one.
Check out the Penguin and bow down to it's 8-Bit superiority:

It's from Mainland China for sure.
Here is more additional info for the "Vii", for people that can read simplified Chinese...
http://www.try2u.com/?p=home_promo&tpl=buy/vii
In case you can't,
It has 2.4Ghz vibrating handset, 360degrees sensing capability, costs 986 Chinese dollar, and so far has 18 games...
