Thanks, this is what I've been waiting for. A good thorough review for the PSP Slim!

It covered my main concern about the "ghosting" effect when watching videos and playing games. Btw, the video-out feature seems very cool though.

The new PSP seems nice, but I think Sony could have worked on it a little bit more. You can't fret when it's priced at $169 I suppose.

At the end of the day the PSP is just not fun. I still have mine but i haven't played with it or brought a game for it since I got a DS Lite.

Good thing hackers have the firmware this uses dumped. Now all thats left is decrypting and making a custom firmware, and this thing will once again be worth it. As it is now, way too much of a risk, since homebrew IS the PSP.

At least FF7: Crisis Core is coming out. That should be a good game. But i agree. I didnt buy this to be a portable PS2. Enough with recreates. Really, the only, and i mean only, really good game for this was Loco Roco.

I don't understand why people always complain that the PSP doesn't have any games. I don't own a PSP or a DS, but I would much rather have a PSP. If the DS is your fancy, that's fine and dandy, but it seems these people make a concerted effort to bash the PSP. The games that interest me that are all original are Syphon Filter, Metal Gear Solid, PQ 2, Crush, and Loco Roco. Those are all already out. I think I'd pick up a PSP just for Echo Chrome which looks amazing to me. As for the new hardware? I think it's pathetic as an update, but since I don't own a PSP yet once homebrew comes around I plan on picking this up.

Well, its hard to say DS or PSP games suck without owning both, you sort of have to get a feel for the libraries. That said there are many good games for psp, i wouldn't count loco roco amongst them though, it gets pretty boring after the first few levels. I played around with the new PSP at PAX while it was tethered to some chick's waist, the star wars battle front game felt pretty terrible in the brief time i played it but the hardware definitely feels nicer than the original. The difference in size is a lot more noticeable than just looking at the measurements would have you think and the dpad felt great.

Yeah, it's funny how they keep complaining about the games. I'm pretty sure they played one game and gave up. Now that Monster Hunter 2 is out you technically do not have to buy a new game for a long time, based on the fact that it no Mini-game.

But no matter what I will always love my portables more than my home consoles. I rarely play with my Wii since I'm always at work or school. Planning to sell my Wii for a 80gb PS3 for its Remote Play functions. I can watch endless movies at work. Also, while I play Glory Dasy 2 on my DSLite. These two toys are luxury to me since I pretty much live in my car.

Personally, I like to direct people to Metacritic where you can see that there are more highly rated games on PSP than on the DS. That's not to say the PSP is unequivocally superior to the DS, but I think it shows that people who complain about the lack of good games just have their heads up their asses.

"Good Game" selection on the two platforms is highly dependent on your personal definition. Say you start the definition of "Good" at a Metascore better than 80% -- that's 37 PSP games and 38 DS games. The problem with this is, Metascore (or rather, the reviews that make up Metascores) generally reflects how well a game did what it set out to do, not whether it's actually fun -- I, for instance, can't stand sports games. Take out the sports games (maybe it's an excellent tennis simulator, but it's still a tennis simulator), and you lose 10 or more of those PSP titles. And take out Advent Children (not a game -- WTF?). You're left with maybe 20 decent games, which isn't great after ~3 years on the market.

Take the same cream-of-the-crop list from the DS side, and you're only padded by one or two sports games. There's maybe 5 or 6 kiddie titles (Nintendogs is on there 4 times, and I don't even consider that a "game"), but that still leaves you close to 30 titles, and that inexplicably leaves out such gems as Final Fantasy III, Mega Man ZX, Super Princess Peach (I was *sure* this one did better than a 75 with the critics...), Kirby Squeak Squad, Wario: Master of Disguise... there's a ton of first- and second-party games that deserve more attention. If nothing else, Nintendo is famously better at bringing up in-house brands than Sony.


Now, that said, I've been playing my PSP more lately than my DS, and I love both my "kids". I just think that "PSP Library < DS Library" remains a valid complaint.
