HP announces the Blackbird 002 gaming machine

We'd heard it was coming Monday, but HP apparently decided to wait until today (because nothing else was going on, obviously) to launch its Blackbird 002 gaming rig. While HP still hasn't told us exactly what you'll be getting for that $2500 - $7100 price tag, whatever chips you order will be liquid-cooled, fully overclockable via a completely open BIOS, and be easy to get at via the tool-less chassis. THIS here was the combined effort of Voodoo/HP.

And for the writers here, there is a huge Voodoo/HP event going on this evening. It has been planned for some time (I would have to look at my emails for exact dates when I got invited), but the fact it happened on the Apple iPod announcement was just a coincidence.

Wow what a nice over priced gaming rig... And look it comes with free smudge and dust magnets too... Those Ribs will be a pain to clean and all the clear purspex fan are going to look nasty after a month of running...

Is it worth it? No... Are you still better off building your own rig? Yes.

Nice design though shame it wasnt thought through.

Sure, if you know what you're doing, you can make a cheaper rig but what about those who don't want to? Also, they won't sell this case alone and if you bothered to read the review, the case is extremely user friendly and you can easily upgrade any of the parts yourself. The difference in price between your own built rig vs this is, well, all the work is done for you and all the testing too; you get the tech support; HP customized BIOS (which is supposedly better than the standard); and specially designed case (if they did sell the case alone, I'd bet it would be at least $250 similar to the CM832). Whether or not you like the design is personal preference.
