Microsoft gets official with new Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 accessories

We first caught sight of these new Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 accessories a few months back, but Microsoft is just now getting official with them, confirming all the details that made themselves known earlier. As we mentioned last time, the controllers are both of the wireless variety, and sport your choice of Covenant Brute or Master Chief themes designed by Spawn-creator Todd McFarlane. What's more, each controller also comes with a "Limited Edition" Halo 3 Master Chief figurine also designed by McFarlane. Look for them to set you back $60 apiece when they're released on September 4th. Also coming for the same price that day is a Halo 3-themed wireless headset, which doesn't boast the McFarlane touch but looks like it should fit in better with your Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360. Finally, while it's not Halo-themed, Microsoft has also taken the opportunity to reconfirm that its Xbox 360 Messenger Kit is indeed going to be released September 4th for $30, which includes the the Chatpad and an Xbox 360 headset. Click on through for a closer look at each accessory.

I like the halo around the Xbox guide button on the Master Chief controller.
The headset looks pretty cool.
Boynamedsue @ Aug 31st 2007 3:23PM
why does the headset look good and share the aesthetic of the console, while the controllers look like something some douche would get airbrushed on the side of his van?
Mystic Alpaca @ Aug 31st 2007 3:25PM
That's brilliant! I so wish i had a van right now!!
MasterCKO @ Aug 31st 2007 5:42PM
yeah, seriously. That's exactly what I thought.
Dragod @ Aug 31st 2007 3:25PM
Eh, I like to have my things match... So, if I had the Halo 3 360, I'd buy 3 more of the Green colored controllers (if they sell them) and then I'd buy the Halo 3 Wireless headset.
So, yeah... I have 3 Wireless and 1 Wired Microsoft controllers(white), and a wireless Microsoft headset.
Silverfrog @ Aug 31st 2007 3:27PM
The hype for this game is so high that NOTHING can possibly live up to it. Not even if it came with a hot, 18-year-old "personal assistant". Seriously. Will I still get this game? Yes.
Dave @ Aug 31st 2007 3:30PM
halo 3 gets too much attention, the beta was nothing special at all, same old same old :-/
Matt B @ Aug 31st 2007 3:49PM
I personally can't wait until Halo drops. Then all the foul mouthed kids will have something else to do other than playing Counterstrike. I'll finally get some civilized CS in.
Andrew @ Aug 31st 2007 4:00PM
The controllers look like something you'd send in 400 proofs-of-purchase of Cheerios for.
arthur @ Aug 31st 2007 4:02PM
dont like it dont buy it
Boynamedsue @ Aug 31st 2007 4:24PM
arthur, while the "don't like it, don't buy it" philosophy is applicable to most things, it doesn't mean people can't EXPRESS AN OPINION.
Andir3.0 @ Aug 31st 2007 5:32PM
Yeah, and it's my opinion that Halo is overrated... thus, I didn't buy it, or a 360, or an XBox (but that had to do more with my absolute hatred of anything with the word Microsoft on it)
dj-kenpo @ Aug 31st 2007 4:15PM
those are ugly controllers.
Maestro @ Aug 31st 2007 4:35PM
Whatever your own opinion is on the design work here, you got to admit, the 'gaming' season has kicked off. Some exciting months are coming.
GioNYC @ Aug 31st 2007 5:42PM
Why doesn't the earpiece match the gamepads?? Why is it green and the gamepads are bluish?
Mak @ Aug 31st 2007 5:56PM
So special, it fails after 3 weeks..
Sukhoi @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:16PM
I don't like the look of the controllers, but I think the wireless headset looks pretty sweet! I am definitely buying the headset after I get my pre-ordered 360!! =)
Enzo304 @ Aug 31st 2007 8:30PM
Will the controllers come with matching rechargeable battery packs? If not, will they be made available?
I'd hate to spend $60 on something that's supposed to look cool, only to have an ugly white or black battery pack on the back of it....
ethana2 @ Aug 31st 2007 8:31PM
What's great is that it's all USB... wait, is the wireless bluetooth? Like, could I use the wireless thing with a PC w/ bluetooth dongle?
I think halo is pretty fun, but I find the concept of a game console pointless.
Enzo304 @ Aug 31st 2007 8:40PM
It's not USB or bluetooth, it's 2.4ghz wireless. Microsoft sells a wireless dongle for pc's....

To be honest, I think Halo (after v1) is getting way too overrated. It's not what it used to be. The first version was a true hit, and it deserved that fame, becuase it was the first great FPS on the original XBOX. Now it just looks like Microsoft's in it for the money. Considering that the Halo 2 (2007) for PC has graphics which look 4 years outdated, and having the same gameplay, lack of a cross platform multiplayer (i.e people facing each other while one is on a PC and the other is on a 360), and much more make the Halo series just look like it needs to be put to rest.
Unreal Tournament 3 (and to some extent Crysis in terms of multiplayer), are going to destroy Halo 3, both in graphics as well as gameplay. I seriously hope that puts the Halo series to rest, once and for all.
I personally think branding the controllers is just going overboard....infact it's making the entire franchise look a tad desperate, becuase more and more gamers who used to be Halo addicts (myself included) are coming to realize that this game is getting boring...and not by a little...but by a LOT.

Don't forget about the new Halo 3 skinz! There are 3 different skinz and one exclusive to gamestop.
I already bought two different Halo 3 skinz, and they are beautifully done! I love the Halo 3 artwork!
