SteelSeries has a good track record with gamers. From what I've heard, their mouse pads are superb. It will be interesting to see how good their mouse is. Can a mouse pad company build a decent mouse?
On another note, SteelSeries' competitor Icemat has a secret product they're developing. Maybe they too are working on a mouse perhaps? Fill us in Engadget, please! http://www.icemat.com/
