Keepin' it real fake, part LXXIV: the Game Boy Micro PMP clone
You can never have too many name-brand duping, cheap looking, Chinese sweatshop produced PMPs laying around, can you? I mean sure, we've seen little guys that boost the Game Boy Micro before, such as this number from way back in 2006, but this new entry does it with so much flair and unabashed disregard for copyright law we just had to mention it. The BMP-900 -- as this device is mechanically called -- does all kinds of exciting PMP activities, like playback of MP3, WMA, WAV, and PCM audio, MPEG4 and AVI video, JPEG, GIF and BMP picture viewing, plus e-book and TXT reading. Additionally -- and this may come as a surprise to some -- the red devil does some video game emulation, including Famicom, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color. Right now the player seems to only be available in China, or wholesale in lots of 100-199 pieces... so, go nuts.

Well, if you want a real Gameboy Micro, it's only 70 bucks.

the real questions are:
1. what res of .avi's can it play without conversion?
2. SDHC?
3. can it also emulate GBA?
if so, i'll ditch my GBA micro but i can't find any answers.
strider_mt2k @ Aug 25th 2007 8:54AM
I kinda like it.
Mad Betty @ Aug 25th 2007 11:18AM
Yes, it's much better for Engadget readers to believe they are manufactured in wonderfully supportive, clean, nurturing environments so they can purchase them as fun little curiosities with no guilt whatsoever. Ignorance is bliss!

"As a Chinese person" lol yeah right
try "Being Chinese myself" next time, not quite as degrading is it?

Your comparisons don't make sense. In saying things are made in Chinese sweatshops, we are, at most, insulting Chinese business practices. This is not the same as calling black people thugs, Mexicans illegal immigrants, etc., where you are directly insulting people for simply existing. Now, if the claim had been something like "the Chinese are stupid, therefore they can only find jobs at sweatshop factories", your comparison would be more valid.

How come the bootleg devices that come out always seem to have more of the things I want than all the legit crap they try to push on me? And then American business wonders why so much of this stuff is sold, and everyone wants an unlocked iPhone. Here's an idea, how about giving customers what they want?
Josh @ Aug 25th 2007 7:47PM
There's a difference between making a product that does everything I would ever want such a product to do, and making said product at a low price owing to it having been manufactured in a country with virtually no labour laws.
kuzu-b @ Aug 26th 2007 1:25AM
Agreed, but the cost is not my issue here I would gladly pay more for the a device that did what I wanted it to do, but it seems like every single electronic to come out of or hit America is crippled in at least one way.

@nonstatic - i found a GAME-88 PMP. There’s emulation support for the NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Sega Genesis games here:

I saw a "21 in 1 extra wide screen" not a psp I swear game in a bargain shop that was just unfortunately shaped in exactly the same way

@kuzu-b -
You are right, the large companies try to keep the US consumer in the Dark. The good news is that most people shop online to get exclusive items that are really only available online.
