Xbox 360 price drops to Wii levels in Australia
They may have had to wait a bit longer, but Australian gamers can now save a considerable chunk of change on a new Xbox 360 just like the rest of us, with the Core model now even able to boast the same price tag as the Wii. That puts it at A$399.95 (down from A$429), while the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro drops all the way from A$649 to A$579.95 (or $486US at the current exchange rate). According to Gamespot, Xbox regional director for Australia and New Zealand David McLean also confirmed that the HDMI-equipped Xboxes would be making their way down under as well, as would the Elite and Halo 3 Special Edition varieties of Xboxen, although he's apparently not quite ready to get specific about prices or release dates for those just yet.

$400 AU, including taxes. (Australian prices always include GST)
The equivalent price in the US pre tax would be 297.279 USD at the current exchange rate, though that has been quite variable of late.
A week ago it would have been $312.78

But you'd still need the HArd Drive to get the most out of games cause Memory Units aren't good for anything.
With just 10 games on my system I'm using 1 GB of save space for game saves alone...not to mention my downloaded content.
WHY is the CORE being sold at all?
Why not just sell the Premium and the Elite?
There is no "rush" for the system anymore...production is keeping up with demand.

Wii has a damn good web browser but, I can't take it seriously till I see some SERIOUS games on the system like "MANHUNT".
XBOX 360 needs a Web Browser. How is it that my PS3 and my Wii have Web Browsers but not my 360 - made by the very people who control over 70% of the web browser market?
Don't make no damn sense I tell ya !

Because MS knows that there is no way of getting a virus off the firmware of your Xbox unless illegally flashing your firmware.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of debate about this as well. The 360 should have a browser, period. I think the apologists out there are saying that it isn't something that is necessary. How often do we even surf the web on your Wii or PS3 anyway when a PC is like two feet away?
I still think the Core is a good idea for Microsoft. If they discontinue they Core system, then that will create a huge gap in terms of pricing. Thanks to the easily removable HD for the 360, Core owners can still upgrade if they choose to in the future.
And I agree with you about the lack of "serious" games for the Wii. Zelda, Red Steel and Super Paper Mario are some of the only titles that interest me at the moment. However, if Nintendo doesn't hurry up, I'll be picking up my 360 and PS3 controller more often for the major titles that will be coming out from Sept. to November.

well i think the browser on the 360 would be a huge security risk for xbox live.
People could download hacks, cheats, and other game exploits which would pretty much ruin the multi-player experience for the rest of us. If they do, the next thing you know there would be a trojan virus for consoles, and everyone downloading roms and just ruining the videogame market.

And you cant download hacks or w/e on the wii or PS3 so it would just be made so you cant download things on the xbox 360 browser.
If you could download things then that would hurt the \'downloadable content\' market. You could go to peoples websites and download videos and homebrew games for the xbox 360 for free without using the market place.

I have not seen a core console in any stores in months? The premium has been available in JB Hifi for au$537 for quite a while now... this isnt anything special.

It will take more than a price drop to save the xbox 360 with the evil red eye problem. This youtube video shows how the xbox is wrapped in 3 towels for 20 minutes while on then cooled for 15 minutes. Just to fix the red eye for a few days.

Here in Sydney, every single demonstrator 360 I've ever seen in any store has the red eye issue and is not functioning. I have never seen one that works. Maybe fixing that would improve sales? But I don't work for Microsoft who clearly know better.

Well... In Norway, the Wii price is between 410-492 US DOLLAH (depends on which shop you visit). The Xbox 360 Premium Edition is about 459-525 US Dollah :P. So, most people buy x360, especially since Wii is far too expensive, and the PS3 retails for about 984 US Dollar (NO BULL).
