Logitech Cordless Precision for PlayStation 3 brings the rumble, forgets the motion
Why Logitech decided to eschew a "next-gen" feature for a "last-gen" one in its newest PS3 controller we'll never know, but the esteemed peripherals manufacturer is nonetheless poised to loose its rumble-tastic, accelerometer-free Cordless Precision for PlayStation 3 on the gaming world. IGN got a first look at the SIXAXIS competitor, and while they appreciate the build quality, battery life, and solid wireless connection, the lack of motion sensing, crappy D-pad, and absence of Bluetooth-related functionality (the Precision requires a USB dongle to communicate with the console) aren't worth the ten dollar discount you're getting when compared to a first-party offering. Plus, now that Sony and Immersion have finally made nice, you're bound to see some Bluetooth gamepads incorporating both force feedback and tilty goodness in the very near future.

Good luck playing LAIR with that.

Not that I NEED rumble, but I would rather wait for a Sony SIXAXIS w/Rumble.

Just goes to show what a cluster-f***k this whole new generation of "gaming" has been. From the disc formats all the way through to take it for granted features like rumple. Thanks Logitech for adding one more aspect of non-linear unceratainty to the whole mess. I'm sure people will rush to buy a non functioning controller in this age of uncertainty. Thanks again.

Wow. What was Logitech thinking?? Did they just slap Playstation buttons one of their old PC controllers, or what??

I dont think so. This looks much like their wireless PS2 model.
Does anyone seriously use the 'tilt' function on their SIXAXIS as it is? I think its more of a gimmick than good functionality.

I know it looks like their Cordless Action PS2 controller, because I have four of them at home. I was just highlighting on Logitech's cop-out when could have easily made a better PS3 controller than Sony that included Bluetooth, motion control AND rumble.
Super Rub-A-Dub for one uses the SIXAXIS tilt controls exclusively.

Logitech console controllers are piles of CRAP! I've owned two, and both were buggy as hell (they were wireless), and rarely worked right. Oh, and forget about trying to hook up TWO at ONCE!
A bit anecdotal I know, but I really hate logitech.

Just like any new feature it will take developers some time to incorporate the sensor motion smoothly into their games. For the moment tho, I use it in "The Godfather: Don Edition", where it is incorporated when you are roughing someone up for protection money. After you grab the person you move the controller forward to push them hard against a wall. Then it is all natural movements (back and forth to shake em up a little bit, left or right to throw them to the side). Also, "Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End" does a nice integration for some acrobatic movements. With R:FoM it is very limited as I have only seen one implementation of when you get grabbed you need to shake it to throw off the enemy.
All in all I think it has quite a bit of potential, once the developers begin to get creative.

to my knowledge, in Resistance there isnt a replacement action for shaking the little bastards off of you. so... i guess you have to just do a really good job of avoiding them.
having a usb dongle is a deal breaker for me.

I would much rather prefer the standard controller to this one, I love the design!

CRAP!!

I really wish Sony or someone would make a controller that was a little larger than the dualshock, it is so small that my hands cramp up when playing games. the Xbox and the 360 controller are almost perfect in my opinion. shame it is one of the best aspect of the 360. (I own both systems).
