Xbox 360 Spring 2007 Dashboard update lands tonight
The Major informs us all that Microsoft's Xbox 360 Spring 2007 Dashboard update -- the one that enables MSN contacts, new video codecs, and a whole host of other features -- lands late tonight, supposedly at or around 2:00AM PST. (Ok, fine, technically that's tomorrow.) Our advice to you: don't wait up for it. Just leave your Xbox on and your cats will inevitably walk all over the buttons, eventually causing you to log on overnight and download the update. (Technique also works with small children.) Or you can just download it tomorrow, but don't be upset if it takes a little while, ok?

Hope this information is right, I had email from microsoft that the update is today and it never happened.
TheDoode @ May 8th 2007 9:36PM
I'll wait. I'm not all that hot for being first in line for a bricking. You can't fool me twice Microsoft...
Zero Iscariot @ May 9th 2007 2:50AM
This guy is a Sony pawn, go look at joystinq's dash update post. This needs to be addressed. Sony is paying people to do this. For reals.
TheDoode @ May 9th 2007 4:31AM
Zero, you're a frigtard. Not that it's any of your brown stained nosy business, but I'm actually play pinball fx right now. Here's a free tip for life, don't flap your yap unless you can back it up 100%.

anyone know when connect360 is going to be updated to support the new video codecs.
iSpork @ May 9th 2007 6:07AM
We'll just have to wait and see. For now, I have Vista Media Centre on my MacbookPro to keep me going 'til C360 is updated.
Joel Laumans @ May 9th 2007 7:17AM
if only microsoft would add xvid support... =(
evoluderxx @ May 8th 2007 9:39PM

THIS IS PERFECT!
I am going to update my 360 when I get home from work tommorow - I'm going to leave it running while I catch up on my weekly episode of THE MCLAUGHLIN GROUP...
...then I'm going to hop in my truck, drive to CIRCUIT CITY and buy a copy of COMMAND AND CONQUER 3.
{If you buy it at Circuit City, you get a $10 gift card - so its like getting the game for $50 instead of $60}
As soon as I see the keyboard on sale, I'm buying it.
I am dissapointed that you cannot use the standard 360 headset with it because of the missing jacks, however, I got the wireless headset last month so it isn't going to be a problem for me.
I'm looking forward to this update cause I want to see the LOW POWER MODE - charging of the wireless controller through the pla

I don't give a damn about the fanboys:
I want a larger buddy list.
I want A WEB BROWSER.
Zeus the God @ May 8th 2007 10:25PM
I'm with you on the larger buddy list, Big, and I understand that a web browser would be great with that thumb board and all, but what happens when you get spyware/adware or a virus? Format the hard drive? No, there is nothing you can do within the legal limits of your warranty or the ToS in XBL.
You would have to flash the firmware of the entire system, so I feel that the web browser would be more of a burden than anything.
Nick @ May 8th 2007 11:48PM
@Zeus the God
Sorry to have to say this but its gotta be said. Why is MS (BTW I'm not a Apple or Linux or Sun or whatever fanboi. I use windows.) the only console who says that they won't put in a browser b/c of spyware/viruses? Is it possibly b/c they know that the XBOX360's OS isn't secure? ALERT THE PRESSES! MS MADE SOMETHING THAT IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO HACKING/VIRUSES!
Just my thots.
Jeff @ May 8th 2007 10:26PM
I dont know if anyone noticed but the apple ad playing on the right on Engadget isn't on Apple's website. Also, I haven't seen it on TV. After refreshing I've seen 2 different ads neither of which are on Apple's site. Just FYI
Josef F @ May 8th 2007 10:37PM
Also, the price of eggs in China is THROUGH THE ROOF!!!
nizzy1115 @ May 8th 2007 11:00PM
you see ads?
Naveed @ May 8th 2007 11:09PM
i hope this makes people upload more h.264 movies, the 360 should handle the codec easily
Upatoi15 @ May 8th 2007 11:11PM
When will the keyboard be available??
ChrisXS @ May 8th 2007 11:30PM
I am eagerly awaiting to see if they will require efuses to be blown in order to run. Disabling the voltage to prevent the efuse from being blown could have a bricking effect if you don't have a nand programmer and made a prior backup.
I'll stick with my Linux capable kernel for now until the haxxing pros figure out a good solution.
Sam @ May 9th 2007 12:17AM
Screw the browser. Just fix the DRM issues when transferring to a new console. And put the 65nm chips in the elite.
That being said, I can't wait for the update. And I'll probably begrudgingly get the thumboard when it comes out.
Big @ May 9th 2007 12:39AM
GIVE ME AN UPDATE THAT:
#1 allows me to upload MP3's to my HDD without having to rip, crappy Audio CD's
#2 Allow me to upload porn DVD's to my HDD so I can use my 360 as a pornographic media NEXUS.
#3 Allow me to upload JPEGS to my 360 from DVD disks {see #2 for reasons why}
I also wish MS would make a better Media Remote.
I just got the long media remote for $20 and I don't think its even worth $10.
Can't control my 7.1 sound system
Can't control my VCR
Can't control my television that well - the volume down button causes the channels to change.
Why should I have to buy the $99 HARMONY?
If I was working on the 360's design Team, Id have designed a MICROSOFT OFFICE 360 - specifically for the system so you could use the 360 as a Word Processor connected to a USB/wireless printer.
This is where my PS3 has my 360 beat.
I'm using OpenOffice on my PS3 and it works excellently.
Game system + Web Browser + Word Processor + USB Keyboard/Mouse = productivity + fun
Now if only my PS3 had some goddamn games.
Romano Uni @ May 9th 2007 6:24AM
That was funny!
Big @ May 9th 2007 9:30AM
"sony pawn?"
And you're basically a wh0re Microsoft puts out on the corner.
Bob E @ May 9th 2007 6:47AM
My update went fine, took all of 30 seconds and a reboot...
Now how about more content in the marketplace and the web browser?
Rick_Havoc @ May 9th 2007 9:11AM
Something wierd...
...happened last night...put in NBA 2k7 and the a message comes up that says "in order to play this game you must place this disk in an xbox360"...of course it was in the 360...we rebooted a few times...and still same message...Tony Hawk and Amped worked fine ...but we couldn't put the rock in the hole...
Anyone else seeing this????
damianharvey @ May 9th 2007 9:20AM
For some reason I had thought that this update would let me text chat in games as you can on a PC. Well it doesn't. Maybe I should have read the release notes more carefully. All it really does is integrate Windows Messenger so you can only chat to your existing contacts.
Stevie @ May 9th 2007 11:08AM
Just got the dashboard update. Is it available to everyone at the same time, or do they roll it out gradually? Looking at the new stuff now..
Stevie @ May 9th 2007 11:24AM
OMG. After playing around in the dashboard, looking at the changes, everything has just locked up. I have rebooted, and I get the dreaded red rings of death.
My console is only 2 months old!!! On the phone to Microsoft now...
UPDATERS BEWARE, THE UPDATE MAY BE BRICKING CONSOLES....
mark @ May 9th 2007 3:12PM
