Plezo intros game-emulating PMG-250 handheld

While it may have trouble prying folks away from their do-it-all GP2Xs, Plezo's new PMG-250 portable media player looks like it could attract the interest of at least a few nostalgic gamers, boasting some game emulation support in addition to the usual audio and video capabilities. Of course, you'll be somewhat limited in your gaming options, with the NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Sega Mega Drive (a.k.a. Genesis) the only consoles supported, although that should still be more than enough to help you re-learn some of those old school skills you may have forgotten. The device itself also looks to be decent enough, with a 2.5-inch LCD, 2GB of internal memory, and an SD slot for some sure-to-be-needed additional expansion. Not surprisingly, this one looks to be exclusive to Korea for the time being, where it'll set you back 169,000 won, or about $180.

The Sega Master System is more in line with that level of Emulation and is probably the system this thing can emulate, instead of the Genesis. However, My Archos Gmini 400 purchased two YEARS ago can and does emulate NES, Gameboy and SMS.

Archos Gmini 400 emulates NES and Gameboy??!!
Please, tell me more.

Jeff http://archopen.org/tiki-index.php is the home of English-speaking home of ARCHOS emulation, currently the Gmini 400 supports NES, SMS, Game Gear, and Game Boy games, and also can play Doom
Gmini 402 [Cam] supports all but the Game Boy
there seems to be a problem with the site now

WANT!
chris @ May 3rd 2007 3:11PM
wait a minute? they WANT you to download roms? o.O can someone explain how this works? or is it ok in other countries?
kingofwale @ May 3rd 2007 3:13PM
for 10 dollars LESS, you can get a PSP.
and even less, you get a DS
why is this even trying?
JoshLowry @ May 3rd 2007 3:17PM
Yea, I don't see this being a success here or there.
Like others said, DS and PSP are a ton better than this emulator. Guess since the games are downloaded then it's cheaper in the long run for them. Have fun playing starfighter.

Mr.Peanut @ May 3rd 2007 3:19PM
And how do you emulate Genesis with only two buttons??
kramer @ May 3rd 2007 3:29PM
What's the point? The GP2X is only around $200, supports more emulators and plays music and movies.
Crono @ May 3rd 2007 3:35PM
No SNES, No sale.

My PSP does all of that, and cheaper, so, what's the point again?

Linux.
All power to the penguin!

MAME please.

Wait for the floods of people to say roms are illegal and engadget is promoting piracy by posting this article.
Anyway as others have already said I think I'll just stick with my PSP. I can emulate just about every system within reason. And the PSP is only $170 yea the GP2X has linux whoo hoo I didn't buy a gaming machine so I can mess around with linux so that doesn't matter to me. I guess this is a nice added touch for those who aren't familiar with homebrew since it already comes with the emulators built in all you need is the roms.

I don't think you have a GP2X do you
you have to wait for the community to develop things
nothing is really built in but the OS, you gotta stuff emulators (Genesis, SNES) interpreters (Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D) and other applications into SD cards
it's a great product, just relatively expensive now because prices haven't dropped much
