Commodore debuts horrendously overpriced XX and GX PCs
Those of you pining to blow $3500-$5800 or more on an semi-overspecced and definitely-overpriced PC need look no further: Commodore is offering its GX and XX gamer PCs online now. With quad-core Intel processors, GeForce 8800 GTX SLI graphics and those utterly frilly "C-kin" paint jobs, you can know your cash is going to sort-of good use. Or if those two pricetags are too steep, you can hold out for the GS and G models, which should be hitting retail right about now -- though we're guessing this whole shady operation is going to be UK only for the time being.

Alas, poor Commodore, I knew thee well.
MrGutts @ Apr 24th 2007 7:47AM
Well cut that price in half and you may have a business model of some kind. No way in hell your going to run on your name alone and people are going to pay for it. Someone is smoking some really really good stuff.

Just checked their site out and I notice that they are providing Vista with the machines. Now correct me if I am wrong but aren't nVidia having major problems with their drivers under Vista at the moment, primarily with the 8 series of cards & SLI due to driver modules stopping working, hence the class action law suit that was announced yesterday against nVidia???

i don't need a new machine, but i'll paypal them five bucks if they promise to throw that paint job in the trash and pretend it never happened.

Just priced up the full spec XX system and they are making £1000 profit on that item at the prices I can buy the components (Ebuyer.com) for in one of quantities (and I have included an Antec P180 black instead of the Commodore case). Obviously they will be paying less than what I can buy the components for as they will be buying in serious bulk, so the 'C-Kin' must be expensive then!!!!
I may have to revitalise my old custom system business again if this is what people are buying now!!!!!!!

If it was a proper Commodore computer it'd only need 64K.

What a complete waste of money. PCs go obsolete so quickly...all of this just so you can play Vanguard on ultra high res?? Get a PS3 or Xbox 360 and save yourself $4500.00.

I agree totally. However, check out Falcon Northwest computers and do what I did earlier to see, max out their highest end desktop with every option and you come close to 15k. I wouldn't spend 5800 on a desktop let alone that. Its a total waste of money. I'd rather spend it on something that actually is worth it, nice car or college payment anyone?
chris @ Apr 24th 2007 9:48AM
a computer is alot more than just a video game system. but yes, that is way too expensive even for a high end computer like that.

keep this going! I'm loving all the old school commodore references!
Does it come with Stunt Flyer preloaded?
Jeff @ Apr 24th 2007 11:32AM
Yeah, I really want a big "THQ" logo on my PC.
Oliver @ Apr 24th 2007 12:42PM
How quiet are these? They have some sort of custom water-cooling but they don't mention noise levels anywhere.
I love the skin styled after the old-style C64 (not enough to drop 5k on it, but still).
David @ Apr 24th 2007 1:19PM
I'll wait until they are $149 at K-Mart and then put one on lay away! What do you mean I have to purchase a floppy drive separately?
murray @ Apr 24th 2007 3:35PM
I can't wait to play Nemesis the Warlock on ths thing.
