PS3 hacked to accept Xbox 360 controller
If you're running Fedora Core 5 on your PS3 and happen to have an Xbox 360 controller lying around -- blasphemy, we know -- then you may be interested to know that a new hack makes the PlayStation 3 capable of accepting instructions from its arch rival's wired controller. Apparently a guy called diabolix managed to throw together a driver for the device, taking us one step closer to realizing one of the runner-up designs from Joystiq's PS3 controller redesign contest (pictured.) So far the PS3 has been the most congenial of the new-gen consoles, seeing as it can now read instructions from the controllers of both its rivals. Of course, neither of these activities was motivated by a desire to make up for inadequacies in the PS3's Dualshake -- that thing's an Emmy award winner![PS3 Fanboy]

PS3s controller is so bad they have to hack an xbox360 one just to satisfy their needs

I'd rather use the Intellivision controller than the 360's D-pad. Ugh. The rest of the controller is great, but the D-pad is awful.

not thirst is the bragging right and the challenge to make a driver like that

now the PS3 might be worth owning for FPSs. as a rabid FPS console fan (PC FPS arent fun b/c they are too easy, noobs get too many headshots, its about hiding behind boxes instead of actual firefights) i love the 360 and its controller. the PS3 controller is great, except having the sticks at the same level is STUPID. the 360 is FAR superior and i hope everyone hacks their PS3s so they can enjoy games like Resistance like they were meant to be played.

If it were meant to be played on a 360 controller, the game would have been made for Xbox 360.

It's Linux - the OS where you *can* do anything... but there's nothing to do.
Recompiling an ordinary Linux USB HID driver for the PS3 isn't exactly a big deal. Using a 360 controller in a PS3 game would be, but that certainly isn't going to happen.

There's plenty to do that can be done with Linux, we just need creative minds to do it.

If the controller works great I might just consider getting ps3.
disciple83 @ Jan 8th 2007 11:57PM
unless sony got an exclusive deal out of it so it won't get owned by 360 consumers...

Imagine a PS3 capable of playing of playing X360 games....

Duct tape a Wiimote to a 360 controller... Wow this gives me an idea...
A better sixaxis.

yea...that would be bad ass if someone could make a hack to use a wii nunchuck on a different console with better graphics
ipoopinmyhand @ Jan 19th 2007 10:09AM
everybody knows, and always has known that sony's controllers are far superior to third party peripherals, and microsoft's controllers. The nunchuck might be cool but it's useless for serious games.
