I don't think he is worried about modding a controller, when he doesn't even have the system yet. Once the battery's charge cycle wears out (as all LiIon batteries do) you pull the battery and toss it.  At least according to the manual. It resulted in a much brighter PS button but it was a pain in the ass to fit it in there, had to melt down some plastic and cut some rubber but I managed to squeeze it in.
