Wii gameplay video (Wii Sports and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)
Maybe you've been itching for some video of Wii gameplay? Watch as Veronica and I make total fools of ourselves playing Wii Sports (Bowling, Tennis, Baseball, Boxing, Golf); we generally tried to stay out of the way of the camera, but weren't always successful. Also, we've got the first ten or so minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on tape. It's a pretty slow moving start, so only Zelda fans need apply. Check it out!
P.S. -Yes, by the time we hit Zelda we figured out why the TV wasn't formatting the Wii signal properly, and got it going to 16:9.

Davis Cooper @ Nov 12th 2006 5:25PM
Wow, I'm suprised you could have so much fun with something that small!
It seems impossible!
But thats from personal experience with...other things.
Matt @ Nov 12th 2006 5:25PM

Andrew @ Nov 12th 2006 5:27PM

Danny @ Nov 12th 2006 5:28PM
Im still not feeling the excitement vibe for the wii, its still shouting "Fun for 5 mins when drunk!!!"
How about some dual camera vid, whats going on screen and what your doing behind the camera.
rob @ Nov 12th 2006 5:30PM

Otsego @ Nov 12th 2006 5:58PM

Ryan, tell us more about that TV. I WANT ONE!
Kevin @ Nov 12th 2006 6:08PM
My apologies - I was so keen to watch the video, I didn't read all the text.
Mathew @ Nov 12th 2006 6:03PM
Why do these adventure games have to rely so much on cut-scenes? I miss the games where you are dropped into the action.
Andrew Rahimi @ Nov 12th 2006 6:04PM
Can we see excite truck gameplay?
Brent @ Nov 12th 2006 6:05PM
It's amazing how they fit Gamecube caliber graphics into such a small box. I agree with Danny, I have no love for the Wii. I just can't picture this being fun for more than a day. After that, I'm pretty sure my Wii would sit and collect dust. To each his own, I guess. Additionally, what are Wii users going to be called? I suggest "Wii-ners". Thank you, and good night.
Michiel @ Nov 12th 2006 6:24PM
Wii sports is really really really boring to watch.
They look like those sucky cellphone games that you only play when you have nothing (and I mean nothing) else to do.
I'm buying a Wii, but after seeying this I doubt I will even try the sports.
v_dogg @ Nov 12th 2006 6:26PM
why dont they put some effort into the wii sports instead of having them suck?
Petterz @ Nov 12th 2006 6:46PM
Is that Veronica Belmont from Cnet.com? Her voice sounds familiar. I listen to the Buzz Out Loud podcasts regularly.
Dan @ Nov 12th 2006 6:53PM
@Petterz: That is Veronica Belmont, of said podcast...
Watching that Zelda footage makes me want to get a Wii even more...
Jon @ Nov 12th 2006 7:04PM
Hey guys,
WE NEED TO SEE YOU PLAYING THE GAMES. That's the whole point of the wii. It's impossible to get a feeling for how the game actually plays if you can't see the motions.
humpty @ Nov 12th 2006 7:15PM
When you shoot the video, can you zoom in to fill the entire screen, and use manual focus and keep it locked on that sweet plasma.
Mrfreezie @ Nov 12th 2006 7:19PM
To: "who's veronica?"
http://www.cnettv.com/?tag=vidlib
That's her, she works for cnet.
Mrfreezie @ Nov 12th 2006 7:28PM
Ugh, I am a nintendo fanboy and even I can barely stand those graphics.. I know, I know, Gameplay>Graphics.. but those look to me like N64 graphics.. Maybe it will look different in person.
Dan @ Nov 12th 2006 8:07PM
@MrFreezie: I thought the same thing yesterday, until "Mark" kindly pointed me to screen grabs.

Ambilight is the dumbest gimmick to ever grace TV's. Not only does it distract from the picture, but if you have an older version it might even set your house on fire! Oh, and to get accurate color you have to have white walls.
On topic however, I can't wait to get my hands on a Wii (oh grow up). Best Buy announced how they were going to do the selling. Apparently at 8am they give out tickets, and at 9am they open to sell the Wii. They're doing the same thing for PS3, only an hour sooner for the tickets and selling on Friday.
Ray-- @ Nov 12th 2006 7:47PM
is the Wii supposed to be in short supply?? I was thinking I'd pick one up but only if I dont have to wait in some obsurd line to get one... I think my kids will love the gaeplay of this thing.
CM @ Nov 12th 2006 7:50PM
Wii Sports is defintely a party game. It'll be a lot of fun to watch your friends make fools of themselves, which is something you don't see at all in the video.
And Ryan, won't you please read the instructions for your video camera so you can figure out how to get a good image? If not, then please post the make & model and someone here can tell you what settings to use. That auto-exposure control setting you're using is for the birds.
Yahya @ Nov 12th 2006 11:18PM
I already experienced the Wii and the PS3.
mortan salty @ Nov 12th 2006 8:17PM
Can't believe you actually posted a clip showing a girl knocking you on your a$$. How does the baseball game work after the ball is hit... is it just automatic and you can't actually field the ball?? Is there a fencing game and do you need to stand dead center of the wii bar or it doesn't matter as long as it can pick up you signal it doesn't actually track your position.
pwfletcher @ Nov 12th 2006 8:28PM
Great console ... if it were 1985! Are they kidding? It would take one huge uber-spliff for me to enjoy the Wii.
Ron @ Nov 12th 2006 8:35PM
Does anyone else have a problem with the video timing out? and whenever i try to download the other ones it shows up as a text file, can someone help me with this? Could it be because I'm on a Mac?
So far, wii sports looks really fun, hope I get to see zelda soon.
Jason @ Nov 12th 2006 8:35PM
is that wii-mote lag i see?
wii-wii @ Nov 12th 2006 8:46PM
Everyone just needs to stop crying about the wii. I think Nintendo has done a tremendous job of creating a device, that could potentially play the entire Nintendo library (at least in theory), for ONLY $250.00. This console has a very broad audience that this console will do extremely well.I seriously don't think their are that many people looking to waste $600+ to buy a PS3. Sony is just trying to hard to compete with X-BOX 360 that they'll land flat on their face and broke. Just look at all of Sony's failed marketing on the PSP.
Dave95 @ Nov 12th 2006 9:17PM
Yeah would love to see Veronica playing with the WII, sorry Ryan.
DM @ Nov 12th 2006 9:33PM
I prefer to play bowling, tennis, golf the old fashioned way. Wii is a lame piece of hardware, it's amazing that nintendo is still around.
Kyle @ Nov 12th 2006 11:56PM
Yeah, you're so right. It make me wonder how Sony and Microsoft are still around too since they both feature sports games as well.
What a fuck-tard...
sixmac6 @ Nov 12th 2006 9:39PM
The links for the videos are wrong, they point to the walkthrough posted earlier.
SteveZ @ Nov 12th 2006 10:04PM
double sixmac6's post
i was looking forward to downloading the video, and 85mb later it turns out to be the same thing as before
sr20vet @ Nov 12th 2006 10:03PM
Just wanted to point out that you download links point to the wrong videos (Wii_walkthrough.*). They should be http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/videos/Wii/Wii_gameplay.avi and http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/videos/Wii/Wii_gameplay.mp4
Matt @ Nov 12th 2006 10:14PM
AOL needs some more bandwidth the download keeps stalling.
Phil @ Nov 12th 2006 11:38PM
Hi Ryan, just a question about the power supply. How many watts does the supply say it uses?
Cheers mate

"It make me wonder how Sony and Microsoft are still around "
LoL. Another dumb fanboy detected.
You wonder why sony and microsoft are still around?
sony = electronics, games, music, movies , the list goes on...
microsoft = Do I have to exlain this???
nintendo = games and stupid fanboys like you.
Porsche 911 @ Nov 13th 2006 12:33AM
No Wii for me until SSBB. Mater of fact, I only bought the GameCube for SSBM.
Camperton @ Nov 13th 2006 2:09AM

Just rename file to exclude the .txt part. Then right click 'open with Quicktime'.

tekdroid @ Nov 13th 2006 6:17AM
1) I was expecting better Wii graphics.
2) Philips Ambilight: wtf?
Jason @ Nov 13th 2006 9:27AM
It bothers me that Zelda still uses subtitles. Other than that, I didn't expect great graphics in either game, but Zelda does look much more grown up. Wii Sports is perfect for a pack-in (read: free). Get over it, people.
Nintendo is still around because they made some of the greatest characters and games in the past and continue to innovate, rather than just pump graphics. Sony got lucky with the past two Playstations. I'm actually sort of hoping Blueray will fail as a format because they are getting way too pushy and it's really the biggest selling point for the system. The Wii may fail on several fronts, but it will only help future gameplay, just like the DS.
Jimmy @ Nov 13th 2006 10:26AM
the download video links are linking to previous video (Wii walkthru) , hope it'll be fixed.
