Intec offers up another Xbox 360 cooling solution: the $100 Power AC Adaptor
If you're not exactly down with tossing a water-cooling system into your Xbox 360, and don't want to get burned by a possibly scorching Nyko Intercooler, you should run right out and pick up Intec's Power AC Adaptor -- if you've got $100 to kill, that is. You heard right, Intec has unveiled a third-party power brick "to replace your lost or malfunctioning" one, which sports an internal cooling fan "to keep your Xbox 360 cooler during operation." It also boasts three status lights of the green, orange, and red variety, which informs you if the brick is "OK, in stand-by mode, or currently malfunctioning." Aside from having a built-in indicator for telling you just how bad things could get, the 0.85-pound device doesn't even include the wall plug to connect your newfangled power supply to an AC outlet. So even if you had the slightest inclination to save your Xbox 360 from impending overheating via this overpriced accessory, be sure your power cord isn't of the recalled variety before plugging up.

Holy sh!t. Too BIG and not make xbox360 cool down.
EdZ @ Nov 6th 2006 1:18PM
Doesn't the 360 PSU ALREADY have a fan inside to cool it?
wako @ Nov 6th 2006 1:19PM
Can someone inform me of how the external power source will somehow keep my Xbox 360 console itself cooler? It might keep my PSU cooler, but how does it affect my console?
Intec sure has some amazing alien technology they arent sharing with the rest of humanity...
CharlieX @ Nov 6th 2006 1:37PM
Exactly. This won't cool your 360 console off at all.... unless maybe you have the power brick on top of the 360 and it's radiating heat into it?
Manuel @ Nov 6th 2006 1:45PM
I, for one, welcome our alien-crafted wallet-emptier dead-ring-saver power supply
Chappy @ Nov 6th 2006 1:45PM
A) This is not a cooling solution, it's just a 3rd party power brick
B) The original power brick has a fan and LEDs for indicating console on/off and failure.
C) The power cord recall was for the original XBox, not the Xbox 360
D) The original power brick can be found on ebay for ~$70
Please try to make sure your articles are posted and edited by people familiar with the technology they describe.

But the 360 powerbrick already has the the red green and yellow LED on it. well at least mine does
Paul @ Nov 6th 2006 2:23PM
I seem to recall that there was a bought of BSOD on 360 consoles when they first came out due to powerbrick overheating, mayhaps this is being targeted at people who still have the ones that overheat?
QUOW @ Nov 6th 2006 2:25PM
Paul, it won't fix the ones that "overheat", because the original PSU already has a fan.
NNTPgrip @ Nov 6th 2006 2:56PM
Majority of overheating problems have been with the power brick overheating. - So this is a good thing - however I would take the OEM one, put it in a bigger box, and mount one of those big low-rpm deals. - cheaper, by far.
This is why I am getting the 360 next year (after the smaller 65nm process + chip consolidation makes it all better - hopefully)
In the meantime I want some reviews on the speediness of the HDDVD drive, my Tosh HD-A1 is slooooooow...

I knew it, buying an Xbox360 was a bad idea. Microsoft should replace all the old Xbox360s free, even if you have problems or not. This is not fair, we became loyal and bought the shitty system on the first day, and now Microsoft has released an Xbox360 with a better processor. This system is peace of crap, all the accessories are expensive, the HDD is small, no WiFi, no HDMI, the 1080p is not native nor digital, and it overheats. Thank god, I also preordered a PS3, my Xbox360 sucks. How am I supposed to get more game updates and demos, well mostly updates, while my HDD is almost full? The heat is also getting annoying. The games work fine on my system, however, the systems home screen (blades) freezes or pixilated.
Well, I guess PS3 is the perfect system, just a $100 more; you can get a perfect system. It is quieter and heats less, HDMI with HDCP support (future proof), expandable memory. Yes, I am going to miss the rumble feature dearly, but it is by Sony, a company that I can trust.
Microsoft is a product spin-off company, Windows (Macintosh), Zune (iPod), Xbox (PlayStation), Pocket PC (Palm), and some Xbox Portable in the works (PSP). I have an Xbox, Xbox360, PS1, PS2, preordered PS3, Windows PC, Mac Laptop, iPod, Pocket PC, and Palm, so by experience, I know quality from crap.

tiuk @ Nov 6th 2006 3:42PM
Way back when the 360 first came out, hackaday posted an article about a guy who replaced his power brick with a normal ATX PSU. Way cheaper, and probably just as functional.
Count Porkula @ Nov 6th 2006 4:05PM
Porsche911, you braindead, Sony fan boy. Do your parents know you're posting on the internet without supervision?
What a completely idiotic post. You have no clue how the PS3 is going to perform. And you're telling me you trust a company that makes exploding batteries and installs rootkits on the computers of customers who buy their music? Truly scary.
Michael @ Nov 6th 2006 6:38PM
if you have looked around through the internet you would have seen video's/reports on how quiet the ps3 is and how much less heat it gives off. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!

Uh oh, Department of Redundancy Department just arrived on the scene...

In the next 12 months this box will go the way of the DREAMCAST DODO BIRD and thats kind a sad because competition is good for us consumers. Oh, well...

On a brighter note MS has deep pockets and staying power. Can anyone say Xbox 720 (black wt built in HD-DVD, 100gb HDD, HDMI etc)? Sweeeeeeet!!!

sweet??? more like oh no more problems. and btw why do they have dumb names???
Andir3.0 @ Nov 6th 2006 9:02PM
Don't you understand, by removing $100 from your pocket, you miss a few gas payments. Upon doing so, your house reaches increasingly cooler temperatures until your 360 stops overheating. It's pure genius!
mj @ Nov 6th 2006 9:04PM
wow something for a change after tons of PS3 bashing we are now back to XBOX 360 "unresloved issues" after one year of launch :), very refreshing.
Gadget Extremist @ Nov 7th 2006 3:53AM
If your XBOX is overheating, then get an egg and fry it. Check it out on youtube.

Does anybody know of an Xbox 360 power supply built to run on 12 volts?
GMG @ Mar 15th 2007 4:21PM
I am from argentina so xbox support doesn´t exists, i have my xbox360 for about 9 months , and it died on me about a week ago, the problem: motherboard flexing due to overheat(messing up the gpu & cpu). Man i am so angry right now, all of the others platforms i had never gave me any troubles like this one, microsoft realeased this in a hurry and ended up losing a lot of cutomers.
and by the way my xbox is like 3rd generation,.....
the sad thing about this , is that i don´t like ps3 neither, so what a hardcore gamer con do?......i guess pc gaming
Denise @ Oct 25th 2007 10:32PM
Using this will void your warranty. Anything that attaches to your console without the Xbox 360 approval sticker will void your warranty.
